Information Curation using Tweetdeck

Tweetdeck is an application that helps find exactly what you want efficiently. It allows you to build a community of knowledge by adding your search query as a column. After browsing through Twitter, looking at various topics such as the world news, sports, technology it made it easier to follow one topic as it constantly appeared in the different searches.

After following the topic of the Hololens from Microsoft, my search led me to augmented reality and onto virtual reality. I noticed that as my search went on I was seeing two or three searched with the same posts. Bellow is a screen shot I took of Tweetdeck when I was browsing.

Using Tweetdeck helps users curate through information resulting in efficient web searching. One could say that with all the information uploaded to the internet having an application like  Tweetdeck is a breath of fresh air.

The Internet of Things

The internet of Things is a phenomenon that has taken our society by storm. Many companies are using different technologies and techniques to have their connected to the rest of the world. One major consideration is how well companies can connect using social media while also maintaining user privacy.

An add-on for tracking

Lightbeam for Firefox is an application that tracks your internet browsing. It is a great service for individuals and companies to track where their preferences are pulled from. Using the application for 20 minutes casually browsing the internet has given me a better understanding of which advertisements are shown to on the websites I visit.

The image below shows the interface of the application and how it has tracked my browsing. The application starts with the visited page and uses a circle as a main hub. The main circle is then connected to many different triangles which are the sites that collect information like cookies. by selecting different options at the bottom of the application you can see which sites were blocked, and which were simply third party sites.

On the other hand using Lightbeam has given be a sense that the internet which is connected in every sense can lack privacy. With only one visit to a website (www.goal.com/en-gb) I was connected to 55 different sites on my first visit. This leads me to questions “Where am I going to end up next?”
